as of march 4, the latest data available, the agency had received 54.7 million individual income tax returns, down 1.7 percent from the same week in 2021. it had processed 53.1 million returns, up 8.3 percent. we always look at how quickly the returns coming in are processed, and right now that rate is 96.9 percent.

\ne-filings<\/strong><\/p>\n

electronic filings make up the vast majority \u2013 97.2 percent \u2013 of submissions. the total of 53.2 million is down 1.3 percent. tax professionals handled 24.2 million, up 1.1 percent, and do-it-yourselfers turned in 29 million, down 3.3 percent. the pros are on the lower side of the total at the moment, with 45.5 percent of all e-filings.<\/p>\n

website visits<\/strong><\/p>\n

the online tax answer hub, irs.gov, had 357.4 million visits, down 35.7 percent.<\/p>\n

refunds<\/strong><\/p>\n

total refunds numbered 38 million, up 5.4 percent, and $129.2 billion, up 19.9 percent. the average refund of $3,401 was up 13.7 percent.<\/p>\n
