the irs had received 125.5 million individual income tax returns as of the week ending may 1, the latest data available, down 11 percent from the same period one year ago. it had processed 113.1 million returns, down 16.1 percent.

the pros kept their slim edge with 50.4 percent of e-filings.<\/p>\n

visits to irs.gov topped 1 billion, up 129.7 percent.<\/p>\n

refunds<\/strong><\/p>\n

total refunds numbered 93.2 million, down 7.2 percent, in the total amount of $252.2 billion, down 8.1 percent. the average refund of $2,707 was down 0.9 percent.<\/p>\n
