you failed to mention in your article<\/a> on the new vista operating system that your computer needs to have a 64 bit processor to run vista. the majority of computers in operation have a 32 bit processor. this means that in order to use the vista operating software, you have to buy a brand new computer. it also means that you will probably have to buy brand new software to load onto your brand new computer.<\/p>\n

in addition to the security flaws recently discovered, as well as the expense of replacing your entire computer, i believe the switch from xp to vista will be a slow one.<\/p>\n

there are a couple of other reasons to hold off on the new vista software…<\/b>if you have cable service, you will probably have to contact the cable company to come out to your home or business to hook up your new computer(s) to continue to receive cable. if you have dsl or wireless dsl, you will need to re-install the dsl software on your new computer, including security pass codes, to secure your network. remember, when the last update from me to xp occurred in 2001, most computers were still using dial-up. even current dial-up users will have to re-install their dial-up software on their new computer.<\/p>\n

in addition to installing software, existing hardware will have to be installed on the new computer. this includes printers, scanners, speakers, and screens. some of this may be alleviated if the hardware is “plug and play”.<\/p>\n

if a business wants to upgrade, it will incur serious costs to replace all of their existing computers. each computer will have to have all of the software and hardware installed, one by one. this is time consuming and very costly. what will business do with all of their old computers? will there be a recycling center to help with the disposal of old computers? remember, computers contain many toxic substances and should not just be thrown in a dump where they may leak these toxic substances into the ground and water supply.<\/p>\n

super audio cds have suffered a similar fate as a result of the extensive hardware upgrades necessary to play sacds. not only do you have to purchase a new sacd player, but you also have to purchase a surround sound system (more speakers). when the conversion was made from lps to cds, all you had to buy was a new cd player. my point here is that when you have to invest a lot of time and money to upgrade to a newer technology, even if that technology has more advantages than the current one, the consumer will resist switching quickly to the new technology, especially if the old technology does everything you need it to do.<\/p>\n

if video conferencing and internet phone with video takes off in the future, perhaps the conversion might be accelerated. for now, i will stick to what i have (windows xp) which works great and does everything i need it to do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
