the all england club recently stated that starting in 2025, technology will make the \u201cout\u201d and \u201cfault\u201d calls at the championships, eliminating the necessity for human officials to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n

the 2024 wimbledon organizers announced that after much testing, they implemented live electronic line calling, which \u201cbuilds on the existing ball-tracking and line-calling technology that has been in place for many years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

the all england club\u2019s chief executive, sally bolton, stated, \u201cwe consider the technology to be sufficiently robust, and the time is right to take this important step in seeking maximum accuracy in our officiating.\u201d she added, \u201cit will provide the players with the same environment they have played in at several other events throughout the tour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

with this change, the french open is now the only grand slam competition without electronic line-calling. after line judges were removed, only chair umpires were on the court at the australian open and u.s. open.<\/span><\/p>\n

for the purists, line judges at wimbledon were fixtures in the all england club, donning their renownedly exquisite uniforms.<\/span><\/p>\n

bolton stated wimbledon needed to strike a \u201cbalance between tradition and innovation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

for many years, she said, \u201c<\/span>line<\/span> umpires have been an integral part of our officiating setup at the championships. we acknowledge their invaluable contribution and are grateful for their dedication and service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

wimbledon and other tennis events have long employed line-calling technology to determine whether serves are in or out.<\/span><\/p>\n
