<\/strong><\/p>\n how to turn a goal into action.<\/strong><\/p>\n by august j. aquila<\/i> i speak with a lot of accountants and consultants every week, and i look for those recurring characteristics that make some of them outstanding in various areas of building and managing a professional practice. those who are great at business development all seem to follow the same process, especially when the going gets tough.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n briefly stated, these professionals are successful because they have a clear vision of what they want to accomplish. they reinforce that vision with positive phrases and affirmations that reinforce their success. the following quiz will assess your business development acumen. give yourself one point for each correct true-or-false answer. (the correct answers are at the end of this post.) they set goals<\/strong><\/p>\n goal setting is the key to your new business development success. in developing your goals, you need to remember one word: smart (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and tangible). once you have a written goal that meets these criteria, you need to implement it. goals without actions are meaningless.<\/p>\n let\u2019s look at an example. your goal is to present six seminars on how to set up a business website by december 31, 20xx. is this a smart goal? you\u2019ve already determined that this seminar topic is a valuable one for your clients. next, you must start the implementation process by answering the following questions:<\/p>\n after you go through these types of questions, you will want to make sure you write down your goals and keep them in front of you. here are the four steps you must keep in mind:<\/p>\n (a) my goal:<\/p>\n (b) benefits you and your firm will receive upon completion of the goal:<\/p>\n (c) action steps and deadlines needed to achieve the goal:<\/p>\n (d) how do you keep score?<\/p>\n answers to quiz<\/strong><\/p>\n all of the answers are true.<\/p>\n scoring:<\/p>\n 6: you are already a great business developer.<\/p>\n 4-5: you are way ahead of the pack.<\/p>\n 2-3: you are in the middle of the pack.<\/p>\n 0-1: better get started now, the race has already begun.<\/p>\n clarify your vision and set goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" how to turn a goal into action.<\/strong>
