‘don’t screw this up.’

suppose you could have president donald trump’s ear for just five minutes—just the two of you in the oval office, and him eager to hear and heed your advice…

what would you tell him?

floridian deborah budaj says, “i would discuss the timeline and plans for removing the burden of obamacare from businesses, and also from individual healthcare plans.”

martin j. rooney would like to see some assistance for the hoi poloi: “we need to find meaningful work for the non-college educated people.  it may require some form of government subsidy and hence taxes may need to rise, but without work, the forgotten people have no hope. they are not participating in the u.s. dream.”

on the off-chance that he might call in a cpa for some pragmatic and unbiased counsel, 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 asked just such a question in our survey on the presidential election of 2016. as it turns out, cpas are prepared for their summons to the oval office. they have opinions. they know what needs to be done. they aren’t necessarily in agreement, but if duty calls, over 1,000 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 members are prepared to proffer presidential pointers.

there is, of course, no shortage of snide advice.

in the first days following donald trump’s presidential election victory, tax and accounting practitioners surveyed say the results have lifted their confidence in the business outlook.

curiously, accountants appear distinctly more confident in their own futures than in the nation’s outlook as a whole.

more post-election analysis:   why accountants voted the way they did

some 56 percent say they are “somewhat” or “much” more confident in the 18-month outlook for their own firms. even more, about 60 percent, say the election results could be good for their clients and customers. about 59 percent see brighter prospects for themselves and their own families. and 56 percent are feeling better about the nation’s economy as a whole.

to be sure, however, your outlook may depend on who you voted for. trump voters are decidedly more upbeat about the future than hillary clinton voters.

the 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 post-election survey shows accountants split by different issues. trump accountants tend to be most concerned about terrorism while clinton accountants are more focused on global warming.

more survey results:  accountants assess business outlook following presidential election

part of the spread might be explained by gender. just as the accounting profession tends to be owned and operated by more men than women, 67.7 percent of 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 respondents were men – and roughly the same ratio of votes for trump over clinton. the demographics of the tax and accounting profession’s practice owners and leaders — the core of the 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 community — tend to match voting patterns beyond the profession. in that, accountants vote more like, well, voters, than accountants.

tax and accounting professionals appear to be breathing a sigh of relief following the u.s. presidential election, with most saying their confidence in the business outlook for their firms and their clients has been strengthened, according to a new 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 survey of more than 700 accountants.

but their economic mood also seems to depend on their political mood.

more than 80 percent of the accountants who voted for republican donald trump feel “more confident” about the business outlook for their firms and their clients. less than 5 percent of democrat hillary clinton voters agree. instead, more than 60% of clinton voters feel “less confident.”

nearly a third of hillary backers—31 percent—are optimistic enough to foresee no change in the business outlook. only 14 percent of trump people were pessimistic enough to expect no change.

maybe it’s only legend, but if you’re a quotation buff, you’ve probably heard novelist f. scott fitzgerald telling hemingway, “the rich are different from you and me.” hemingway responds, “yes, they have more money.”

the same may apply to giant corporations, at least as far as the irs is concerned. and the consequences are far from amusing.

study decries ‘myth’ of public interest

huber

call it what it is, ‘market interest,’ author argues.

by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间

the accounting profession’s governing establishment is actually a cabal of industry and government designed to thwart – instead of protect – the public interest, a new study asserts.

“the public interest is proven to be a myth, a construct created to disguise what interest the public accounting profession, and the associated governmental and private regulatory and standard-setting bodies actually serve and protect – the market interest,” says the author, wm. dennis huber of cappella university.

in critically analyzing the language of the missions, charters, statutes and legislative findings of auditing and accounting standard-setting bodies and government regulatory agencies, huber found that “the public interest” as professed by these organizations is “plagued by significant inconsistencies, contradictions, and conflicts.” read more →

deloitte drives 9% revenue increase, to $31.3 billion

should the world worry about mixing audit and consulting?

amid concerns among lawmakers worldwide that the audit function was being diluted by consulting, deloitte touche tohmatsu is reporting $31.3 billion in worldwide revenue for the  year ended in may, an 8.6% advance for the year and the firm’s strongest increase since 2008.

the revelations drew some sharp reactions. “it is hardly news that the big four accounting firms get bigger nearly every year,” says the economist. “but where they are growing says a lot about how they will look like in a decade, and the prospects worry some regulators and lawmakers.” read more →

cpa interstate mobility becomes a reality in all but one of the united states

hawaii last holdout in battle dating to the last century.

by rick telberg exclusive to 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间

it took 15 years, but cpas can now operate freely throughout the contiguous united states.

california gov. jerry brown has signed into law a bill allowing out-of-state-licensed cpas to work in the state without needing a california license. hawaii is now the last holdout. california’s law takes effect july 1, 2013. and the district of columbia’s law goes into effect today.

it is an historic milestone in a long political struggle fraught with frustrations and setbacks that began with fiery, divisive wars within the profession itself.
