nevertheless, don’t plan on the old ways coming back. i just read that more than 60,000 accountants have already lost their jobs. perhaps, the war for talent will be over. there will be further reductions in the professional service workforce and firms will be able to pick and choose from the talent pool.

i have never seen so many people terrified of a working environment, as i’ve seen over the past month with employees sent home to work. firm leaders are panicked about productivity and work ethic, which i find hilarious because you are essentially saying that you don’t trust your employees. you don’t trust them to do the same job at home because you aren’t there to monitor their every move. if you don’t trust your employees, why did you hire them in the first place?!

seven tips for teams and leaders dealing with coronavirus lockdowns.

as i stood in the shower one morning earlier this week the words, “this feels like war” came to mind. not that i’ve been in one. but i’m experienced enough to recognize the panic, uncertainty and vulnerability. moments later, with coffee in hand in front of the tv, i listened as new york governor andrew cuomo stated, “this is a war. we have to treat it like a war.”

in these turbulent times, leaders must lead!

www.g005e.comsix things you needed to start doing yesterday.

by allan koltin

in the face of this unprecedented global pandemic, leaders must lead! we need to fill our days with talking to our people, clients, and our families and engaging them in the reality of the situation while at the same time stressing the positive things going on.

related: all 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 special coronavirus coverage

i was on a call this morning with a client and i was sharing how wonderful it was to have all three kids back home (they would have been studying abroad, at college, or going to high school) and how nice it was to have family dinners together again. i was also sharing the positives with the kids that their grandparents were healthy, safe, and getting calls from so many family members and how important this was to them. as i was walking the dogs this morning it occurred to me that i heard birds chirping and that i had been “so busy being busy” for the past four decades that beautiful sounds like this or the smell of the morning air were never on my mind. at a deeper level, and to equate it to a sporting event, i feel like the proverbial “scoreboard” has malfunctioned and there is now a new way to keep score, and it is becoming the new normal.

coronavirus culture-shift hits accounting firms

transitioning to a virtual firm requires more than the right technology: it requires new thinking about how your firm works.

by jess coburn

as the coronavirus situation intensifies, it is becoming more and more apparent that we must become increasingly flexible and innovative in how we approach our day-to-day lives. nowhere is it more evident than in how we run our tax and accounting firms.

the coronavirus crisis requires a total re-evaluation of how we conduct our business. for those firms with employees – as opposed to sole practitioners – it is critical to consider going fully remote during this time. it makes sense from a health standpoint and also from a business survival perspective. it’s important for employees to remain healthy and to be able to conduct work, especially during these busy times which involve tax filing deadlines and inevitable extensions.

it’s also important to recognize that families are being impacted due to school and daycare closures, requiring employees to be at home to care for them.

all of that said, the move to a fully remote status requires a culture shift. for many cpa firms and other professional services organizations, this is a major adjustment.  read more →

coronavirus—covid-19—is coming. don’t imagine it won’t reach your community. it will. and even if you manage to keep it out of your office, and even if its lethality is less than the flu, just the threat of covid-19 is already impacting many tax and accounting firms.

how accountants are preparing for the worst:

  • do you have the portals, web-based apps, and cloud accounts necessary for staff to work from home? have you tested them? maybe you should have an everybody-works-from-home-day drill.
  • do you have policies and procedures in place for home-based work?
  • do individual staff have plans for caring for their family without disrupting work?
  • have you prepared clients for the possibility of electronic delivery of data and documentation? do they understand what to do?
  • are you ready to request filing extensions due to staff or client illness or local quarantine?
  • have you established sanitation procedures for your office?
  • do you have a vision of the worst-case scenario? this could include a) long-term quarantines of your office, other businesses, and all clients, b) widespread illness and absence of staff, c) general economic downturn, d) interruptions in cash flow, e) slower than usual responses from the irs, and f) well…what else can go wrong?

the 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 busy season barometer has always asked a variety of poignant questions about everything from the status of firms to the state of the economy. this is the first year, however, that it includes a question about disease. read more →
