building the virtual cfo firm in the cloud
i believe it’s important for accounting firms to standardize their technology “stack.” having a standardized tech stack of applications helps to automate every corner of your workflow.

the applications you use should be seen as an extension of your business. your onboarding process will be more effective if your team doesn’t have to learn a new set of tools every time a new client comes on board.
while we will, of course, work within whatever programs new clients are using, developing consistency internally as much as possible is key.
at summit cpa group, we have three primary technology stacks:
1. admin – these are the tools we use internally to work together as a team. they help our team collaborate and communicate effectively online even though we are not all together in the same location. our admin tech stack includes software programs for accounting, bill pay, client interaction, cloud storage, expense management, internal communication, meeting scheduling, productivity tools, recruiting, security, task management, time tracking, and workflow automation.
2. audit, production, and tax – these are the tools we use to provide services to our clients. our audit, production & tax tech stack includes software programs for audit, audit research, accounting, bill pay, dashboarding, expense management, forecasting, time tracking, and tax.
3. marketing – these are the tools we use to promote our company and our services online. our marketing tech stack includes software programs for customer relationship management (crm), sales and marketing, social media and website.
these three primary technology stacks help keep our team connected with one another as well as with our clients. i believe it’s important for us to always be willing to adapt to the newest technology that comes along, and because technology is always changing, i don’t want to get too specific about the exact tools we use today. instead, you can use this general overview as a guide for which areas to consider as you develop your tech stacks.
