cpa firms and payroll agencies are trimming their headcounts going into busy season 2020, according to new data obtained by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 research

- trends concerning women in the accounting workforce
nationally, the unemployment rate was little changed at 3.6 percent and payroll employment rose by 225,000 in january, according to the latest data from the u.s. bureau of labor statistics reported today. the number of unemployed persons changed little, at 5.9 million.
professional and business services increased by 21,000 jobs in january, adding to the 390,000 gained over the past 12 months.
employment in the accounting profession dipped in january to 1,029,700, down 3,500 or 0.3 percent for the month but up 20,000 or 2 percent for the year. workers averaged 36.2 hours per week, flat for the month and up 6 minutes or 0.3 percent for the year. their hourly earnings hit a new high of $34.99, up 24 cents or 0.7 percent for the month and $1.27 or 3.8 percent for the year.
staff numbered 775,000, up 3,400 or 0.4 percent for the month and 17,100 or 2.3 percent for the year. their hours at 34 were flat for the month and down half an hour or 1.4 percent for the year. they made a record $27.61, up 8 cents or 0.3 percent for the month and $1.25 or 4.7 percent for the year.
cpa firms
cpa firms employed 493,900, down 500 or 0.1 percent for the month but up 14,400 or 3 percent for the year. they put in 37 weekly hours, down 12 minutes or 0.5 percent for the month and 42 minutes or 1.9 percent for the year. they earned a record $36.94, up 33 cents or 0.9 percent for the month and 90 cents or 2.5 percent for the year.
staff at cpa firms numbered 349,400, down 3,500 or 1 percent for the month but up 4,500 or 1.3 percent for the year. they worked 35.7 hours, up 6 minutes or 0.3 percent for the month but down 42 minutes or 1.9 percent for the year. they made $28.37, down 4 cents or 0.1 percent for the month but up $1.08 or 4 percent for the year.
tax preparation services
employment in tax prep hit 97,400, its highest mark since may 2018, up 5,500 or 6 percent for the month and 2,700 or 2.9 percent for the year.
payroll services
payroll services employed 180,000, down 900 or 0.5 percent for the month but up 6,600 or 3.8 percent for the year. workers hit a scant new record at 36.7 hours, passing the august 2019 mark of 36.6. the new point is up 12 minutes or 0.5 percent for the month and 1 hour 48 minutes or 5.2 percent for the year. earnings dropped to $32.68, down 30 cents or 0.9 percent for the month but up $2.72 or 9.1 percent for the year.
staff in payroll also dipped, by 2,500 or 1.6 percent for the month but up 1,700 or 1.1 percent for the year. they notched a new high for hours of 36.3, up 1 hour 12 minutes or 3.4 percent for the month and 1 hour 30 minutes or 4.3 percent for the year. earnings at $28.35 were down 69 cents or 2.4 percent for the month but up $1.82 or 6.9 percent for the year.
bookkeeping
other accounting services hit a record high employment of 268,100, up 1,500 or 0.6 percent for the month and 7,800 or 3 percent for the year.
women
there were 666,600 women in the profession, a new high by 3,600 or 0.5 percent for the month and 30,200 or 4.7 percent for the year. women in cpa firms numbered 306,700, down 700 or 0.2 percent for the month but up 13,500 or 4.6 percent for the year. they saw a decline in payroll services to 93,500, down 1,200 or 1.3 percent for the month but up 6,700 or 7.7 percent for the year.
