it is possibly one of the largest cas surveys ever, with 3,771 (and counting) accountants responding to the survey.

does firm size matter for offering cas? some 64 percent of the top 100 firms are increasing their business using cas as their strategy. before you conclude that cas is for bigger firms only, take a look at this insight: of the accounting professionals in the united states who include the words “client accounting services” in their linkedin profile titles, about 42 percent are with firms having fewer than 50 employees.

this is just one of the clear indications that technological advances are leveling the playing field and hence are making it possible for firms of all sizes to offer cas, without the need to have too many resources. in other words, cas can increase net take-home because of increased profitability.

fresh insights from this new cas survey reveal that 78 percent of the firms who completed the survey and offer cas have 10 or fewer employees.

taking the “firm size” question out of the equation, the most important question to answer is “how,” not “why,” should you offer client accounting services. the “how” converts into many key questions, though.

this new survey is leading to uncovering answers to many key questions firms need to know for offering cas and making them successful. for example:

  1. what is cas?
  2. is cas important for the future of accounting firms?
  3. how do firms price their cas services?
  4. which pricing method is the most common among cas firms?
  5. on average, how many services do cas firms offer?
  6. do smaller cas firms offer fewer number of services in cas?
  7. what are the most common services offered under the cas segment?
  8. what are the top types of services offered by cas firms?
  9. how is cas different from the traditional services offered by accounting firms?
  10. why is cas becoming the key growth strategy for accounting firms?
  11. does cas provide superior revenue growth?
  12. does cas result in superior profit for accounting firms?
  13. does cas help to attract more new clients?
  14. does cas increase client satisfaction?
  15. does cas create new opportunities for firms?
  16. how many most common internal tools do firms use to achieve cas success?
  17. how do cas firms get new clients?
  18. what are the methods that cas firms use to get new clients that non-cas firms don’t?
  19. what are the marketing methods that larger cas firms use but not the smaller ones?
  20. are cas firms more satisfied with their firm performance?
  21. what is the #1 positive impact of cas?
  22. does cas improve staff morale at firms?

our research teams are working on the statistical analysis of the survey findings to uncover answers to these, and many more, questions. stay tuned.

firms of all sizes, including sole owner firms, are responding to this new survey. the survey is, therefore, revealing competitive intelligence based on firm sizes. hence, the insights emerging from this survey would be highly relevant and representative of the cas segment of the accounting profession.

the answers will also reveal the main hurdles in the way of cas success. in other words, when you respond to this survey, you can anticipate insights relevant to your firm size and to the services you provide.

missed one very important question for firms wanting to grow or add cas.
what internal tools (software-practice mgmt., workflow, client communication, engagement letter, quickbooks, zero wave, bank feeds, ledgersync, abacusnext, aero, atom, accountants world, bill.com receiptbank, and many others) with evaluation questions concerning, ease of use, price/value, how well liked, time saved vs. data entry of checks & deposits, and so forth.
