the accounting profession employed 1,006,500 in june, up 700 or 0.1 percent for the month and 12,800 or 1.3 percent for the year. employees worked an average 35.9 hours per week, up 12 minutes for the month and 48 minutes for the year, respective upticks of 0.6 and 2.3 percent. they barely stayed above the $33 hourly mark at $33.08, down 12 cents or 0.4 percent for the month but up $1.14 or 3.6 percent for the year.
staff in the profession grew to 756,900, up 12,100 or 1.6 percent for the month and 2,100 or 0.3 percent for the year. they worked 34.2 hours a week, up 6 minutes or 0.3 percent for the month and 18 minutes or 0.9 percent for the year. they made $25.88 an hour, flat for the month but up 75 cents or 3 percent for the year.
cpa firms had 483,000 employees, down 500 or 0.1 percent for the month but up 9,300 or 2 percent for the year. their weekly hours were 37.1, up 300 or 0.8 percent for the month and 1,000 or 2.8 percent for the year. their wages squeaked up a dime to a new high at $35.55, up 0.3 percent for the month and $1.02 or 3 percent for the year.
staff at cpa firms numbered 350,900, down 700 for the month and 600 for the year, declines of 0.2 percent for each. hours worked were 36.1, up 18 minutes or 0.8 percent for the month and 1 hour 12 minutes or 3.4 percent for the year. their earnings dipped to $26.98, down 5 cents or 0.2 percent for the month but up 9 cents or 0.3 percent for the year.
tax prep
tax preparation services employed 93,900, up 5,900 or 6.7 percent for the month but down 800 or 0.8 percent for the year.
payroll services
payroll services had 173,200 employees, up 3,000 or 1.8 percent for the month and 4,100 or 2.4 percent for the year. their weekly hours averaged 35.4, down 6 minutes or 0.3 percent for the month but up half an hour or 1.4 percent for the year. hourly earnings at $30.25 were up 43 cents for the month and 42 cents for the year, both 1.4 percent increases.
staff in payroll gained 3,000 to total 145,400, up 2.1 percent for the month, and 2,800 or 2 percent for the year. hours were flat for the month at 35.1, and year over year up 42 minutes or 2 percent. they earned $26.68 per hour, up 21 cents or 0.8 percent for the month and $1.61 or 6.4 percent for the year.

other accounting services employed 255,800, up 1,000 or 0.4 percent for the month and 1,800 or 0.7 percent for the year.
women
women in the profession held 631,800 jobs, up 10,900 or 1.8 percent for the month and 16,900 or 2.7 percent for the year. their ranks in cpa firms totaled 294,600, down 2,100 or 0.7 percent for the month but up 3,100 or 1.1 percent for the year. women in payroll numbered 86,600 and fared extremely well, up 4,000 or 4.8 percent for the month and 11,400 or 15.2 percent for the year.
