nationally, the unemployment rate fell to 10.2 percent in july as total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 1.8 million in july. notably, job numbers showed some recovery in leisure and hospitality, government, retail trade, professional and business services, other services, and health care.
the current count shows the tax and accounting profession with 1,015,500 employees, up a scant 900 or 0.1 percent for the latest month available, but down 17,500, or 1.7 percent, for last 12 months.
tax and accounting employees, overall, are averaging 36.1 hours per week, down half an hour, or 1.4 percent, for the month, and 6 minutes, or 0.3 percent, for the year.
on average, tax and accounting employees are making $34.95 an hour, down 13 cents, or 0.4 percent, for the month, but up 82 cents, or 2.4 percent, for the year.
non-supervisory staff numbers stand at 748,800, up 12,200 or 1.7 percent, for the month, but down 24,300, or 3.1 percent, for the year.
staffers are putting in 34.3 hours, down half an hour, or 1.4 percent, for the month, and 6 minutes, or 0.3 percent, for the year.
they’re earning $27.60, down 22 cents, or 0.8 percent, for the month, but up 84 cents, or 3.1 percent for the year.
cpa firms
at cpa firms, total headcounts number 488,100 employees, up 200, or statistically flat for the month, but down 800, or 0.2 percent, for the year.
the average number of hours worked at cpa firms is 37.3, down 12 minutes, or 0.5 percent for the month, and unchanged year over year.
cpa firm employees are making $37.24 hourly, down 17 cents, or 0.5 percent for the month, but up 93 cents, or 2.6 percent, for the year.
staff at cpa firms clocks in at 340,900 workers, down 100, or flat for the month, and 10,90,0 or 3.1 percent for the year.
staffers are working 36.1 hours per week, down 24 minutes, or 1.1 percent, for the month, and unchanged for the year.
staff wages are averaging $29.51 per hour, down a scant penny for the month, but up $1.83, or 6.6 percent for the year.
tax preparation services
tax prep employs 95,200 people, up 1,100 positions, or 1.2 percent for the month, and 100, or 0.1 percent, for the year.
payroll services
payroll services employ 154,100 persons, an increase of 1,900, or 1.2 percent for the month, but a plunge of 25,600, or 14.2 percent for the year.
payroll employees are clocking 36.9 weekly hours, down 30 minutes, or 1.3 percent, for the month, but up 1 hour 24 minutes, or 3.9 percent, for the year.
payroll workers are earning a record $34.98 per hour, up 41 cents, or 1.2 percent, for the month, and $3.89, or 12.5 percent for the year.
staff in payroll numbers 128,900, up 1,500 or 1.2 percent, for the month, but down 22,700, or 15 percent for the year.
payroll workers are putting in 36.5 hours, unchanged for the month, and up 2 hours 12 minutes, or 6.4 percent, for the year.
