today’s world is governed by laws and regulations, professional standards, ethical codes, and more. and an organization needs to be able to navigate this incredibly complex regulatory framework. it’s not just about being in business anymore. it’s about staying on the right side of the law and the right side of the profession.
our framework complexities have never been more sophisticated than they are now. we have policies such as the general data protection regulations (gdpr) in europe or the california consumer protection act (ccpa). guess what?
if you have clients in california or if you have clients in the european union, you might be subject to these policies.
navigating these different frameworks can be very difficult because there are so many gotchas and so many incredible details that unless you’re staying on top of the policy and staying on top of the laws as they’re being written, you might not even realize that you’re subject to them. and these regulations have teeth.
the fines, fees, headaches, and potential bad publicity that can accompany not knowing these laws are unacceptable. ignorance is not an excuse. so it’s so important that we’re not just balancing our clients’ books; we’re not just helping them process payroll or cut their checks and pay their bills. we have to help them make these decisions because we are trusted advisors to our clients and to our organizations. they will look to us to help them navigate this incredibly complex regulatory framework. and it will only get more sophisticated, bigger, and more important in the coming years.
