sloppy work is always evident and usually incomplete. thorough work is careful and usually complete.

all work has to be reviewed. and clients and others look at it.

thorough work takes longer when first being worked on, but review time is drastically reduced. further sloppy work takes longer to be reviewed and longer for the preparer to be acclimated with the file when picking it up to make changes.

remember:

  1. all work has to be done properly and it is much smarter to do it right the first time.
  2. no matter how rushed you are to get something done and how much you rush to get it done, you will always have to find the time to redo it to make it right.
  3. teach your staff to work deliberately and focused, with the goal that there is an important reason for them to do it, and they should treat what they are doing with that importance. they owe that to the client.
  4. doing it right the first time is smart business.
  5. you are only measured based on your last screw-up.
