but cch’s prosystem fx and intuit’s lacerte lead in market share.

of the 17 products identified for the survey, drake and thomson reuters’ ultratax cs were in a virtual tie for first place for the highest overall rating.
drake scored highest, a 4.44 on a scale of 1–5, just a nose ahead of ultratax cs at 4.43.
the results repeat the 2009 survey in which drake and ultratax also tied for top spot in loyalty, and lacerte came in third, while gosystem trailed the rest of the field.
the aicpa noted a rise in the percentage of respondents who disliked the price of their packages and a rise in the percentage of respondents turning to chat for technical support.
meanwhile, vendors are moving as fast as they can to migrate their products to the cloud amid stiff doubts from practitioners.

i’ve used drake since 1995. it is easy to use and reasonably priced. it includes all 1040, 1120, 1120s, 1065, 706/709, 990, 1041 and all states. plus free electronic filing for same. drake just recently raised the annual renewal from $995 to $1,095. personally, i can’t understand why anyone would spend more for other tax software.

we’ve just moved to thomson’s virtual office and are probably going to back out and build our own vpn so staff can work from home. there are just too many hidden costs associated with cloud computing. the client portals seem great, but we are in an economically challenged rural community and the add on pricing for all the features that make portals attractive is just too much for my clients. they want it, but aren’t willing to pay more for it. no surprise there!
