survey results: are cpas just guessing about client satisfaction?

many cpa firms are surprisingly casual about how they acquire new clients or about how to keep them happy.

as part of our “seven keys to successful cpa firm management” program, we’ve been surveying accountants and clients to learn the clues for effective marketing, business development and client satisfaction and retention.

do you know what it takes to lose a client? we know, because we asked clients.
here’s what they said:

. .
.
.
it looks like most cpa firms, are indeed, guessing about client satisfaction. few have systematic programs for measuring results.

.
.

.
.
.
barely half of all firms have a formal client acceptance process.
.
.

.
.
despite the recession, almost two-thirds of firms are trimming their client lists.
.
.

.
.
does any firm really know why they lose a client? some do.
many just never ask.

    excellent info from your surveys.

the greatest percentage in the category below is lack of attentiveness. the response rate was 30%.

why would you or your organization change cpa firms?

i was president of the association of practicing cpas years ago-we surveyed business then and the response rate to a similar question had the same or greater percentage. things havent changed.

one of the reasons we started bizactions was to help firms in this area.clients need to know their firms care and are attentive, entrepreneurial, and knowledgeable about timely business matters (not just accounting).our service is launched as frequently as weekly. we are told by firms using our service that we have gone a long way to help them improve their clients perception of their attentiveness .
feel free to contact me to discuss if you wish.
